Temperature dependence of electric field noise above gold surfaces.
Electric field noise from fluctuating patch potentials is a significant problem for a broad range of precision experiments, including trapped ion quantum computation and single spin detection. Recent results demonstrated strong suppression of this noise by cryogenic cooling, suggesting an underlying thermal process. We present measurements characterizing the temperature and frequency dependence...
متن کاملSpin-Orbit Electric Field Gradient in Cubic Ferromagnets: Strong Magnetization-Direction Dependence of the Field Gradient Distribution
The ISOLDE Collaboration CERN, CH-1211 Geneva 23, Switzerland (Received 19 March 1998; revised manuscript received 19 October 1998) The electric quadrupole interaction of 191Pt (I 3y2; T1y2 2.9 d) in an Fe single crystal was measured for magnetization M parallel to the crystallographic [100], [110], and [111] axes. For M k f111g and [110] the distribution of the electric field gradient (EFG...
متن کاملPRESSURE DEPENDENCE OF THE ELECTRIC FIELD GRADIENT AT THE Al NUCLEUS IN GdAl2
High pressure NMR measurements have been used to show that the temperature dependence of the electric field gradient at the A1 sites of GdAI2 cannot be due lattice expansion. Any pseudoquadrupole contribution to the electric field gradient is also negligible from a comparison of GdAlz and HoAlz measurements.
متن کاملElectric field gradient effects in raman spectroscopy.
Raman spectra of materials subject to strong electric field gradients, such as those present near a metal surface, can show significantly altered selection rules. We describe a new mechanism by which the field gradients can produce Raman-like lines. We develop a theoretical model for this "gradient-field Raman" effect, discuss selection rules, and compare to other mechanisms that produce Raman-...
